PGA Coach Chris Ryan explains a counter-intuitive downswing move used by elite players to deliver the golf club consistently from the inside. By positioning hands further away from the body at delivery (when shaft is parallel to the ground) and snapping the grip back toward the lead thigh through impact, golfers can eliminate shanks, shallow their club path, and increase swing speed.
At delivery (shaft parallel to the ground), your hands should actually be further away from your body than at address.
Trying to pull hands close to the body early forces the clubhead outside, causing over-the-top swings and shanks.
Use an alignment stick on the ground between your toes and ball to measure and feel proper hand distance at delivery.
Through impact, snap the grip in and up toward your lead thigh to exit left and transfer maximum speed into the clubhead.
