If Your Struggle To Strike Your Irons, Just Do This Before Every Shot
PGA instructor Danny Maude explains how to eliminate fat, thin, and topped iron shots by controlling the bottom of the swing arc. He presents two core keys: setting chest and weight forward over the lead side, and releasing the trail arm using a stone-skimming motion to ensure ball-first contact.
Position roughly 70% of your weight and your chest forward over your lead foot at setup and maintain it through impact.
Keep the golf ball positioned around the center of your stance, behind your lead shoulder.
Avoid throwing or straightening your trail arm directly down toward the ground, which causes an early low point.
Release the trail arm on an arc around your body—like skimming a stone across a pond—while keeping your trail shoulder low.
