What Nobody Tells You About How To Hit Driver Straight
PGA coach Danny Maude explains how traditional driver setups often lead to a slice due to the club's path moving left late in the arc. He provides three simple adjustments—closing the face at address, optimizing ball position, and shifting body alignment—to neutralize curvature and find more fairways. The lesson focuses on achieving a straighter ball flight without requiring a complete swing overhaul.
Close the clubface to the '11 o'clock' position before taking your grip to counteract an open face at impact.
Position the ball roughly 2-3 inches inside your lead heel; too far forward causes the club to swing left and exaggerate a slice.
Aim your entire body (feet, hips, and shoulders) slightly right of the target to align the swing path with the ball's position in the arc.
Avoid 'flicking' the wrists at impact; instead, feel a release where the handle and clubhead maintain their relationship to prevent a 'chicken wing'.
