In this lesson, Golf Studio demonstrates the Pump Drill to fix an over-the-top swing caused by early chest rotation. By keeping the back to the target and dropping the hands to hip height twice before hitting the ball, golfers learn proper transition sequencing and improve their club path.
Coming over the top occurs when the chest rotates toward the target too early in the downswing.
Keep your back facing the target while dropping your hands down to hip height in transition.
Perform two practice pumps from the top of the swing, then swing through and strike the ball on the third motion.
Ensure the chest does not open up during the pumps to retain proper sequencing and shift the swing path inside.
