Golf Magazine Top 100 Teacher Kellie Stenzel shares key techniques for holing 8-foot putts. She demonstrates a chalk line drill to perfect putter face alignment at setup and explains a two-section green-reading method to accurately read break on mid-range putts.
Use a chalk line snapped onto the green to verify your putter face is aligned perfectly perpendicular to your target line.
Stabilize the putter face with your hands while building your body setup around it so the blade face does not twist.
Divide an 8-foot putt into two 4-foot sections to evaluate the left versus right slope of each section individually.
Give extra consideration to the section closer to the hole, because the ball breaks more as it slows down near the cup.
Keep your lower body completely still during the stroke and listen for the ball to fall into the cup.
