Why This Scratch Golfer Couldn’t Keep His Driver Straight
In this lesson from Meandmygolf, Andy Proudman works with Hunter, a scratch golfer struggling with toe strikes and a persistent snap-hook. Instead of changing the swing motion, Andy focuses on setup fundamentals, moving the ball position back to neutralize the attack angle and adjusting alignment to the left. By fixing posture and closing the distance to the ball using an alignment stick balance check, Hunter achieves center-face contact and a predictable fade.
A forward ball position with driver often leads to hitting too far 'up', which can close the face and cause hooks.
To neutralize a hook, try moving the ball slightly back in your stance and aiming your body further left.
Toe strikes are frequently caused by being too far away from the ball or having too much weight on the toes at setup.
Stand with an alignment stick under the arches of your feet to ensure balanced weight distribution and proper distance from the ball.
Small setup changes can solve complex ball-striking issues without the need for difficult swing modifications.
