Super Bowl Champ asked me to Fix his Golf Swing | Fixin's
Performance Golf coach JT Thomas analyzes NFL Hall of Famer Ed Reed's golf swing to identify a 'root flaw' causing thin shots and slices. JT discovers that Reed's chest gets ahead of his hips at the top of the backswing, pushing the low point too far forward. By using the 'Step Drill' and focusing on keeping the chest behind the ball, Reed is able to transition from a slice to a powerful high draw in under an hour.
The 'root flaw' for many golfers is the upper body racing ahead of the lower body in the backswing, which ruins the low point for driver and woods.
Wedges can mask this flaw because they require a more forward low point, but longer clubs will fail consistently.
Feel like the 'buttons on your shirt' stay behind the ball at the top of the backswing to create space for a proper forward shift.
Use the Step Drill to stabilize the trail leg and prevent the 'Elvis move' where the trail knee collapses inward.
Fixing the root movement allows other elements like path and lag to fix themselves naturally.
