In this video from Top Speed Golf, instructor Clay Ballard demonstrates how to eliminate a slice using the 9 & 3 o'clock check. By ensuring the clubface matches the spine angle in the downswing and fully closes through to 3 o'clock, golfers can coordinate face control with an in-to-out path to hit consistent draws.
At 9 o'clock in the downswing, the clubface should match your spine angle or be at most vertical, not hanging wide open.
At 3 o'clock in the follow-through, the clubface should be vertical or slightly closed to ensure the club released properly.
Swinging out to the right alone will not fix a slice if the clubface remains open at impact.
Pairing a closed face position with a path moving slightly right produces a reliable draw.
