How to Shallow the Golf Club Like the Pros

Clay Ballard from Top Speed Golf explains how backswing hand depth and right elbow structure allow the club to shallow naturally. By positioning hands over the midfoot or heel and keeping the trail elbow near 90 degrees, golfers create space to swing from the inside without forcing the move.

• Avoid forcing the club shallow with your hands during the downswing; fix your backswing position instead.
• Position your hands at the top of the backswing so they align over your midfoot or back heel.
• Match your left arm to your shoulder plane at the top for optimal depth.
• Keep your right elbow near a 90-degree angle to avoid jamming your rotation and forcing a steep downswing.
