150 yards out in a fairway bunker? Put the sand wedge away 🚫
In this instruction video from True Swing, Erika Larkin and Coach Janine Murphy explain how to hit a hybrid from a long fairway bunker. Coach Janine demonstrates key setup adjustments—including gripping down, moving ball position slightly back, and keeping feet on top of the sand—to ensure clean, ball-first contact.
Use a hybrid from fairway bunkers 150+ yards out, provided the lip height allows enough trajectory clearance.
Grip down on the hybrid handle slightly to control swing depth and prevent digging into the sand.
Position the ball neutral or slightly behind center in your stance for clean ball-first contact.
Keep your feet flat on top of the sand rather than digging in like you would in a greenside bunker.
Take a controlled three-quarter backswing (lead arm parallel) and finish with a full follow-through.
