This driver setup looks WRONG… but it makes you find the middle 👀 #golf #golfinstruction #golftips
PGA instructor Alex Elliott explains why aligning the driver out of the dead center at address often leads to heel strikes and slices. Because the clubhead naturally rises slightly at impact, setting the golf ball up slightly toward the toe allows the sweet spot to center up perfectly at impact. This quick setup tweak leads to more consistent sweet-spot contact, straighter drives, and increased distance.
At address, your driver rests on the ground, but at impact the clubhead raises slightly, shifting the sweet spot further away from you.
Setting up with the ball aligned slightly toward the toe compensates for the club raising during the downswing.
Allowing the club to rise into the ball naturally moves toe alignment into center-face contact, reducing heel strikes and slices.
