Do This for 5 Seconds to NEVER TOP the Ball Again!
In this video from Get Good At Golf, PGA Professional Chris Dennis demonstrates how quick setup adjustments can eliminate topped shots with fairway woods both off the deck and off the tee. He explains key checkpoints including positioning the ball slightly forward of center, standing a hand's width from the belt buckle, and focusing on the back of the ball. By maintaining a solid weight transfer onto the lead side, golfers can achieve clean contact and proper launch.
Position the ball slightly forward of center in your stance rather than treating it like an iron or driver.
Maintain a distance of about a hand's width between your belt buckle and the club handle to allow natural arm hang.
Focus your eyes on the back of the golf ball rather than the top to prevent hanging back during impact.
Shift your weight onto your front foot during the downswing to strike slightly down into the ball.
Keep tee height low when on the tee box to encourage a solid strike without hitting the crown of the club.
