SMASH Your Drives & PURE Your Irons With This Simple Setup Fix - (LIVE LESSON)
Award-winning PGA coach Kerrod Gray demonstrates how adjusting ball position and setup posture dramatically changes contact quality between irons and drivers. By positioning iron shots near the stance center and driver shots off the lead heel with built-in shoulder tilt, golfers can consistently achieve crisp descending iron contact and powerful upward driver strikes. Gray introduces a simple lead-hand setup routine to lock in correct spine angle and body alignment at address.
Position middle-to-short iron shots near the center of your stance (about one clubhead width inside your lead foot) to promote a descending blow that hits the ball first and turf second.
Place the golf ball off the inside heel of your lead foot for driver shots to enable an upward angle of attack.
Avoid twisting your shoulders open when setting up to a ball positioned further forward.
Use the lead-hand setup drill—standing tall, attaching the trail hand underneath without turning shoulders, and hinging into posture—to establish ideal spine tilt behind the driver.
