Golf instructor Michael Kanev explains how incorrect ball position causes fluffed, heavy, and thin pitch shots. By moving the ball left of center toward the lead heel, golfers can engage the club's bounce and prevent the leading edge from digging into the grass.

• Playing the ball too far back forces the leading edge to dig into the turf, causing heavy or chunked pitch shots.
• Position the ball left of center, near the inside of your lead heel, to properly engage the club's bounce.
• A forward ball position shifts the low point forward, allowing the club to glide cleanly through impact.
