In this Performance Golf session, coach JT Thomas identifies and corrects Ed Albert's root swing flaw: losing posture and turning flat in the backswing. By learning to tilt the lead shoulder down during the backswing and extend up through impact, Ed eliminates his lifelong slice and starts hitting draw shots. Applying the same concept to the driver yields 25 additional yards off the tee in just 15 minutes.
Identify your root flaw: Fixing one primary movement breakdown automatically resolves multiple cascading flaws like slicing, pulling, or thin contact.
Tilt shoulders down in the backswing: Keep your lead shoulder pointing down toward the golf ball to prevent the upper body from pulling away from the ground.
Move up and away through impact: Allow the body to extend up and away from the ball on the downswing to naturally force an inside-to-out swing path.
Practice hand release with the Whoosh Drill: Turn the club upside down and practice making a fast whooshing sound past impact to release the clubface correctly.
