Your lead arm is too straight. Your circle is still too small
LPGA coach Erika Larkin explains how premature wrist hinge creates a narrow backswing circle that reduces distance, even when the lead arm stays straight. She demonstrates how keeping the 'Y' shape longer into the takeaway allows swing momentum to naturally set the wrist hinge ('L' position) at the top for maximum speed.
Width creates distance: Keeping the clubhead farther from your body center allows it to travel faster with less effort.
Avoid early wrist hinging: Immediate wrist setting during takeaway narrows your arc and pulls the club too close to your trail shoulder.
Allow momentum to hinge the wrists: The wrist hinge should happen naturally near the top of the backswing rather than being forced early.
Maintain the 'Y' shape: Keep your arms and club shaft forming a wide visual Y shape through the initial takeaway.
