Balloon ball flight. Spin axis is high, carry is short, wind eats it.

What high launch looks like
You see a weak, floaty, ballooning ball flight that climbs uncontrollably, loses distance, and often drifts off to the right. Impact feels like a glancing blow off the turf with a total lack of compression.
Why it happens
Flipping or early releasing the wrists Unloading the wrists early or flicking through impact causes the handle to back up, dumping excess dynamic loft onto the clubface. This non-existent angle of attack causes the ball to climb high and balloon without distance. How to tell: Check video of your impact position to see if the shaft is vertical or leaning backwards rather than leaning forward towards the target. The idea: Release. An open clubface at the top Having the clubface wide open relative to your swing arc in the backswing leaves no way to compress the ball. You are forced to flip your hands and release early in an attempt to square the face before impact. How to tell: Pause your backswing on video at the top to see if the clubface is angled open relative to your spine angle. The idea: Face angle. From JChownGolf, Face First Golf.
Disconnected trailing arm in the downswing Allowing the trailing arm to get stuck behind your body seam during the downswing prevents proper torso rotation. This disconnect forces your hands to throw and flip at impact, removing shaft lean. How to tell: Look at a down-the-line swing video at belt height to see if your trailing elbow is stuck behind your side seam line rather than in front of your body. The idea: Downswing. The Difference: GOOD vs. BAD Wedge Shots! by Milo Lines Golf. Amateurs struggle with wedge control because they rely on hand action and flip the wrist at impact, adding loft and reducing spin.
