This SHORT Backswing MOVE will Get YOU Hitting the LONGEST Drives Ever!!
In this instructional video from Get Good At Golf, PGA Professional Chris Dennis demonstrates how a controlled, shorter backswing feel produces higher ball speed and longer driver hits. He details a split-grip rehearsal drill to prevent over-swinging and keep the trail elbow tucked. Additionally, he explains setup essentials including stance width, flaring the lead foot for hip rotation, and checking grip knuckles for a square clubface.
Feeling a shorter backswing (hands to right shoulder height) promotes better center-face contact and higher ball speed.
Use a split-grip rehearsal drill with your lower hand extended on the shaft to keep your trail elbow tucked at the top.
Flare your lead foot outward at setup to prevent getting stuck during downswing rotation.
Avoid standing too far from the ball or taking an excessively wide stance, as it forces steep multi-plane downswings.
Maintain a neutral grip with roughly two knuckles visible to ensure a square face at impact.
