Two hours on a launch monitor, compressed

You cannot tell what a fitting is like from a spec sheet. You have to watch someone sit through one.

Each session ends with the numbers, and what the golfer walked out with.

The shape of it

What a fitting looks like here

Nobody can tell you what a fitting is like from a spec sheet. You have to watch someone sit through one.

These are the videos where a creator books a session, hits into a launch monitor for two hours and reports what changed — carry, dispersion, spin, and whether any of it survived contact with the golf course. Club Champion is the most prolific studio here by a distance, with James Robinson Golf and trottiegolf close behind.

The best of them are honest about the parts that don't flatter the process. Fried Egg Golf follows two golfers through a fitting at Golf Galaxy; Matt Fryer Golf goes to the other extreme at TaylorMade's Kingdom; Paige Spiranac runs a driver shootout at Club Champion. Between them you get a fair picture of what a fitting costs, what it changes, and when it isn't worth it.

Each session on this page ends the same way: the make and model the golfer walked out with, and the numbers that justified it.

Asked and answered

Questions about this format

Is a custom fitting actually worth it?

It depends on the gap between your current clubs and your swing, which is exactly what these sessions expose. Watch a few — Club Champion and James Robinson Golf both publish sessions where the gains are modest, not just the ones where they're dramatic.

What happens in a golf club fitting?

You hit your current club into a launch monitor to set a baseline, then work through head and shaft combinations against your numbers. Club Champion's guide to shaft length covers one variable in isolation.

How is this different from a gear review?

A review tests a product. A fitting tests a golfer, and the club that wins is only the right answer for the person swinging it.
